Asking For Help!

January 25, 2013

In our society we are very results oriented. Most of us aren’t afraid to work hard to achieve something. We often expect results overnight and get discouraged when we don’t see them. We may fail repeatedly and eventually hire a trainer or tutor, or take a course to learn how to succeed at our endeavor, whatever it is. When we do finally grasp the challenge at hand, it’s like a light switch is turned on.  Some of us are too stubborn to ask for help and will just give up. If you do that enough times eventually you may even quit wondering what life would be like had you just asked for help. You’ll be stuck in the darkness.

The Christian walk is the same way. In fact, before you can achieve anything for God you have to ask for His help! Until you surrender to God and realize you can’t do it on your own you cannot win. There’s no two ways about it. Why then do we so often decide that once we’ve accepted Christ as Savior we still need to try and do things on our own?

Just as salvation is a gift so too is forgiveness, affirmation and encouragement. All we have to do to receive them is ask. God is happy to give us these gifts! Yet we still try things our way because that’s what we’ve always done. If you don’t ask God for the gifts He has for you, you will be stuck with what you can do. Ask for help, let His light switch turn on in your life! You won’t regret it.

Once you’ve received these gifts you’ll find it so much easier to give them to other people. You won’t have to walk around in bitterness but can be handing out forgiveness. You can quit being Mr. or Mrs. Negative and turn into an encourager. In Him, you are the light of the world. Let it be turned on so others can see Him in you!
