We’re Not Worthy!

August 27, 2014

The title may take you back to Wayne’s World days, but how true it is for all of us. Every one of us has sinned over and over again. The fact is, we were born into sin. No one had to teach us how to say no, or to lie to our parents. No one had to teach us to ignore that lady who looks like she could use a hand carrying that. To think that anything we’ve done or will do can earn the love of God for us is impossible. The crazy thing about all of this is, He knows every one of our flaws, not just the ones we’re willing to tell people about, yet He loves us anyways. God’s love for us is so great He was willing to send His son to die in our place – for our sins. All we need to do is believe, repent and receive an eternal relationship with Him.

That’s why I get upset with myself when I catch myself not loving someone else who may have done something to offend me, or who I may not even know. The message of the gospel is a love story, and if we aren’t sharing and showing that love maybe that’s a reflection of how much of it we truly believe. I feel as believers sometimes we get so caught up in the visible actions we tend to miss the point of the heart. The intentions may even be good, but the second we start to think God needs us to do what we’re doing we’re probably missing the point. We need to love everyone, especially those we may disagree with. If you feel like they aren’t worthy, remember, neither are you! Do the right thing to show God you love Him, not to try and earn anything. He’s already given you so much more than you could ever attain.

No matter how many times you’ve failed God He still loved you. No matter how many times you fail Him in the future He will love you. The less you worry about showing off how good you are and remember you too are unworthy, the easier it is to love the ‘unlovely.’ Be careful not to think you’re so good you’ve got it all together. It’s an easy trap we can all fall into. In my own personal life I’ve found it’s often fellow believers I have the hardest time showing love to. I need to remind myself in those moments that I’m no different from them and no more worthy than they are. I’m truly not worthy of the love God has shown to me, but I believe He left me here maybe just to show others the same exact thing.

  1. So true . Love is the one thing above all others that’s we’re called to do but the last thing on our list of to-do’s. Thank you for this reminder…. It’s the first thing I’m putting on today 🙂

  2. It looks great on you Trisha! haha
