Thanking God For Answered Prayers!

June 6, 2015

I know I’m guilty of not being specific in prayer way too much. God wants nothing more than for us to love Him and be His friend. When do you hold back details from those you’re friends with and love? Except when we’re trying to keep from hurting their feelings, I can’t think of any. Well, God already knows what’s going on in our lives, but He wants to hear it from us!
This past year has been incredibly challenging for me from a physical standpoint. I’ve been working a job that requires me to walk 12 to 15 miles per day on the concrete, gathering materials in a furniture factory. I wound up needing surgery on my left foot last year, and this year my right foot was getting to that point. I was asking God on occasion to show me something else. It’s not that I didn’t like my job, or the company, I just couldn’t endure it physically.
Fast forward to a couple of months ago when I heard from a restaurant in town that was looking for a general manager. I went to an interview with them, and they lined me up for a second interview. The night of the first interview I prayed and asked God, “Lord, I think I can handle being back in the restaurant/bar business, but don’t know that I want to. If this isn’t what you want, please show me.” The very next day at work, for the first time I can recall in four years there, they handed everyone a paper notifying us of new job postings. At that point I was thinking, “I hear you Lord!” One of the jobs was in the office, off of my feet. I put in for it and declined the second interview with the restaurant, leaving it in God’s hands. Within two weeks, I got the job in the office.
I don’t claim to know how God works, but I do believe the more specific we are when we talk to Him, the better chance we’ll like the result. John 14:14 “If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” Isaiah 7:11 “Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; ask it either in the depth or in the height above.” How often have we taken for granted that our all knowing and loving God knows our needs? That is all true, but He wants to hear from us. He wants us to be thankful in understanding that He is the source of all that is good in our lives, and He wants to hear it from us.

  1. Woh, Brother! Have you got a word that’s sinking deep beneath my skin today! I was just pondering in my morning studies and quiet time about the lack of specificity in my prayers; mostly in asking for more discernment. Paul gives us this beautiful prayer in Philippians, “that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ…”. The pen fell from my fingertips and every hair on my body stood up. This is what I’ve been missing in my prayer life as of late. My curiosity runs beyond reach and somewhere along the way I have forgotten to just ask… and expect. Thank you for this good word, George!

  2. Thanks so much Trisha!
