It May Not Feel Like A Blessing At The Moment

June 26, 2015

I’ve both prayed and heard many a prayer asking for God’s blessing. When giving praise for God’s blessing we seem to always mention something great that has happened in our life. It may have been a new job or promotion. It may have been the birth of a healthy child. Those are wonderful things and we should be thankful, but to be truly blessed we’d better be ready for some real life struggles.
I want God’s blessing on my life, without a doubt. Maybe when I’m going though a struggle it actually is a blessing and I just don’t see it. It’s much easier to see when I look back at crises I’ve gone through, but while I was in the midst of the struggle it sure didn’t feel like a blessing. Everything I’ve survived, all my personal failures, have brought me to the place where I am now. I’m so grateful for all of it now. Yes, all of it. That doesn’t mean I want to do it all again, trust me! I just know every bit of it can be used by God to show off His incredible strength through my weakness, and His unfailing grace.
There are so many things in this world that seem unfair. Everyone seems to want an easy life where everybody loves them. I like to think that most people I’ve met like me. However, if I really want God’s blessing, the last thing I can worry about is what others think. When you read Matthew 5, you may want to re-define your own definition of blessing. You may even quit asking to be blessed, to be honest with you. I’ll still pray for it, but knowing that it’s through the storms and tests where He likes to bless us. Hopefully, after reading these 10 verses, you’ll be ready to be the light He has said you are, and you’ll understand better being blessed often comes with a price!

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
